Girl Geeks KW: History of Mobile Gmail- July 12

We are thrilled to announce the second Girl Geeks KW event to take place July 12th at The Barley Works. We are even more excited that we have a Waterloo Googler on board to talk about the history of mobile Gmail.

Mobile Gmail has undergone a number of major iterations over the past 6 years as technology trends in mobile devices have evolved.  Historically and today, the Google Waterloo office drives the bulk of the work.  This talk, with Joanne McKinley will be heavy on the screenshots, and will will review the technology and motivation behind the main iterations, challenges and some basic lessons learned.

A little about Joanne – Joanne is a software engineer at Google, she joined the company  in 2005 as co-founder of the Google Waterloo office.  She has specialized in wireless/mobile client application development since 2002, making her a relative “old-timer”  in this fast-paced and exciting area. She received her M.Math and B.Math (both in Computer Science) from the University of Waterloo in 2002 and 2000 respectively.  She still calls Waterloo home and she has a second career as mother to two young girls.
